Improve impromptu speaking skills

Definitely worth learning 23 months ago

I have been doing public speaking for several years. One of the best ways to handle an impromptu conversation is to always turn the conversation to the other person. Ask about his desires, dreams and accomplishments. If you’re speaking to a group, realize that you’re there because you have a connection. Just tell them why you are passionate about the subject and you’ll always meet some of the group right on.
The number one suggestion I have is to relax and simply let it flow. Remember, that person you totally admire and wish you could be, has problems too.

My late father was an EXCELLENT speaker; impromtu and off the cuff as a raconteur. What I learned from him (indirectly)... don’t be afraid to follow your digressions; let them lead you back to the point, they have a reason for popping up.

Also, if life amuses you, put that amusement into your talk: what you find, or moving, what you are passionate about.

As the Gita says, “to unite the heart with God and then to act…”

In India, all classical dance and music performances begin with an offering… in my heart I always begin with an offering inside, before hand, when I might feel fluttery… then I just channel my father, and let ‘er rip!

Anyone know any good books that provide short anecdotes and jokes for speeches?
