I watch the Triple Crown every year. I was so engrossed with the whole Barbaro story. I too want to wear a hat and drink mint juleps.

For Mom 13 months ago

My Mom has always wanted to go to the Kentucky Derby. She wanted to go with my grandfather, but they never did before he passed away. I feel like my very existence has prevented my mom from doing a lot of thinsg she wanted to do before I came along, so I’d like to get here there.

I’ve been watching this race on t.v. since I was little and I’ve always wanted to see it in person. Someday I’ll go, wear a big hat, bet on the horses, and sip mint juleps!

.. OMG, you've never seen so many hats ... 15 months ago

Someone gave me tickets to the KY Derby for both days. Thousands of hats everywhere you look. This was my first visit to the Derby and it was really impressive to be there. You have to walk all over and see the presidential floor and the infield too. The vendors and the groups spread out on their blankets on the lawn. There was a hefty man reaching into his pants and pulling out Ziploc baggies full of whiskey. He told me that’s how you bring the booze in. Be aware they will search you when you enter the gates. You are required to empty your pockets and purse onto a table. Then you have to put your items in a clear plastic bag and be scanned with a metal detector wand. The baggies of whiskey are undetectable. Rooms are expensive so plan ahead. Don’t try to park close to the Downs as there are no spaces. Park at the stadium and take the shuttle bus. If you like to walk it’s only a mile from there. Hang by the paddocks where the jockeys mount up. They are wearing clean uniforms going out and coming back in they are covered in mud (except for around their eyes). They will sign autographs as they pass thru the crossing area. They raise the crossing barriers as the jockeys come thru be sure to be on the side you need to be as they keep the ropes up until all the jockeys have passed thru. At the end of the races they pass out gorgeous roses from the winners circle too.

Derby Day at Churchill Downs 18 months ago

I would LOVE to attend the Derby in tne next three or four years, I love TB racing and know a lot about the history of the sport as well as history of bloodlines.

I’ve been on the infield 7 times. It’s a blast! Hard to see the horses, but it’s still a great way to spend a day in the sun (less fun in the rain, however).

I have a ticket this year! Finally, I can participate in the greatest celebration of Kentucky pride ever!

Absolutely worth it! 20 months ago

I went to the derby a little more than 10 years ago with a handful of friends. We paid for the cheap infield tickets, so, it was a little difficult to see the actual races, but we still had a blast.

If you intend to sit in the infield, I suggest you get there early to stake out your spot!

I’d love to go again one year, but with actual seats and do the whole southern lady hat thing.

This looks like something FUN to do. I’m not a gambler at all but putting money on a horse and cheering it on, even if it loses, would be interesting.

Everyone Should Go at Least Once 23 months ago

Went the year Canonero II won (1971?) and was in the infield. It was a lot of fun, but we didn’t know who won for I don’t know how long (no cell phones or Crackberries back then). I want to go and get a good seat some time, but that isn’t easy to do.
