Why not make a mosaic out of legos???

new media on an old theme 19 months ago

I have been collecting beer caps with the intention to mosaic a table that could be used in a pub. I probably have enough caps, so now i need a table!

semi-successful attempt 1 year ago

the cement dried before i could finish, so i guess i’ll paint on the otherside.

i’m kinda disappointed b/c it took such a long time to find the right base for my mosaic. oh well. it still looks kinda cool

may be very cool for making mosaics. A friend said one of the more popular items to use in mosaics is broken glass or pottery.

I like using tiles but it will be fun to experiment. I can take out some frustration at the same time.

Have you heard of e-How.com? 3 years ago

They have directions on how to do most anything you can think to do. :)

I subscribe to their newsletter and today they sent directions on How to Make Tile Mosaics

How did they know I am interested in doing this?

Steps:

“1. Draw your design on a piece of paper with markers or colored pencils.”

“2. Lay out the pieces of tile on the paper to be sure that you have enough pieces of each color.”

“3. Remove the tiles and lay a sheet of clear acrylic over the design.”

“4. Apply a layer of adhesive to the back of each tile using a palette knife, and place it in the correct position.”

“5. Try to keep less than a 1/8-inch space between the tiles.”

“6. Spread grout over the entire project after you have all the tiles in place. Make sure you get the grout down between all the tiles, and make it level with the tile tops.”

“7. Use a damp sponge to wipe off the excess grout from the tile faces while the grout is still wet.”

“8. Let the grout dry and polish the tiles with a clean, damp cloth.”

“9. Glue protective felt pads on the back of the piece when it’s dry if you plan to use it as a trivet or coaster.”

There are also instructional pictures and tips on how to get tiles for free!

fun... while it lasts 3 years ago

I wanted to learn mosaic tiling. Seemed like a good way to extend the life of broken vintage porcelain objects. So I got some old plates, a hammer, some other stuff that you use to create mosaics…

BAM! About the time I hammered my thumb breaking up some plates, I abandoned that hobby. I mean, I dropped it like a hot potato. I didn’t just stuff it in a closet or basement… I GOT RID OF IT AND NEVER THOUGHT OF IT AGAIN!!

I have enough hobbies anyway.
