I officially paid off my credit card and opened a savings account! I’m quite excited. My savings account isn’t huge but it will grow over time.
How I did it: I opened up an account at my local credit union. They have a thing where when you make purchases with your debit card, it rounds it up and puts the extra change into your account. Saving money without even trying!
I also take $100-$150 from my check every week and throw it into my savings account.
Lessons & tips: Not to sound like NIKE, but JUST DO IT! Put it in your savings and don't look at it.

catsimple needs some motivation to sort out her life
I have never been able to save a penny in my life. As my mother always says ‘money burns a hole in my pocket’. As a result I am in great debt.
I am determind to change this. Lately my partner and I have become engaged. Although the wedding is years and years away (since we are both 19) I would like to know that I atleast have some money to put towards it. We are also looking into getting a flat together after I finish University (2years)
All in all, it’s about time I started saving!
m1ssjade loving my goals
i spend so much money on absolute crap, dvds, clothes, novelty items
i want to save the money i spend on that crap and put it towards better things like travel a house etc
As much as I hate these things because it’s money that I don’t use on manga…much…I need a savings account so that I’ll keep my dirty mits off my money and let it grow. ^^;
that one girl knows that all big changes are made one small decision at a time!
i don’t think at this point i can put aside 10% of my income. i’m thinking i am going to start by saying in 3 months of 2009, i would like to have 400$ in the savings account. enough to start with and leaving us plenty to pay off old bills.

It’s one of my summer goals, and I’ve already accomplished it :)
I love this new bank. The people are so friendly! It didn’t cost me a dime to open, either.
Now I’m motivated to check off a few more summer goals right away! :)
I’m researching all my possibilities in an effort to find the account with the highest APY or APR that also doesn’t have rigid rules and fees/penalties (hidden or not), that’s with a reputable company. So far I’ve found that Charles Schwab Bank offers an interest checking account with an APY of 2.01% which is much higher than the current interest rate that National City offers on it’s savings account – a paltry .03%.

I went down to Wachovia a couple of days ago and opened a savings account, and an extra checking account to boot. I’m gonna save $150 a week for a year to fund a 6 month vagabonding trip around the world. Frick yeah
