How I did it: I was about 6 years old when my parents opened a savings account for me. I had seen my older brothers deposit money in their account, and for whatever reason I wanted to save until I had a $20 bill to take to the bank. I'm not sure anymore where the money came from, but I still have a memory of going to the bank to put it in.

I’ve been reading about this for years, but have I got a savings account at the moment? No! I have a mortgage where all my money goes.
I’ve got a copy of The Richest Man in Babylon which I’m about to give away. But at the same time, I’ve now resolved to start a savings account and see how much I can put in there.
When I was in my 20s a friend told me about compound interest and I’m thinking I could have acted a bit earlier. I’m in my early 40s and I guess I should’ve started earlier, but hey better late than never. I think it’s the right thing to do. 13 months ago

I’m not sure why this is something I’ve put off for so long. It’s by far the easiest item I have on my list of things I want to accomplish in order to get my life together, and I feel like the payout will be the biggest. I need to learn to manage my money, if not, I won’t ever be in control of my life. I cannot spend needlessly. I cannot accumulate any more debt. I need to learn responsibility and this is the first step on a long road, but I’m glad I’ve taken it. 18 months ago
