I’m have a real sarcastic streak and like to turn about everything into a joke. People tell me I’m real funny and that they would watch me do stand up. I’ve always wanted to give it a try; so I finally decided what the hell, let’s do this.
I’m not going to quit my day job, but I thought I’d start putting together a bit and trying it out on amateur night at the local club. This Thursday I’m going to the club, but I will probably just watch and then plan to get on stage for the following one. Wish me luck; I don’t want to freeze up in front of all those people!

I have done this before and it is the ultimate feeling for me to have a large group laugh because you told them something funny. I enjoy the process of creating material and then being able to share that with a large audience. I do not think I could do this for a living but every now and again I would like to sneak on to a stage and tell them what I think is funny.

...called the other day pestering me about why i hadn’t made a payment for a while… a year or so… and as I was explaining to her the complexities of poverty, she goes “well maybe you should do stand up comedy for money” Is that a prophecy? Probably not. It just seems like too much effort. You HAVE to be funny right now, I’m too moody for that; i wanna be funny in my own time, sometimes I wanna be surly… neway, that’s it

I really think my entire life is a stand up comedy act. I just need to find another stage somewhere and give it a whirl… it will be awhile. I will give up on this until I have that Divine Moment..
don’t you fret though.. it’s coming at us.

maybe not stand up, but I dunno. I’m scared that I’m not actually funny. I’m pretty much only situationally funny or theoretically funny. To do standup I’m pretty sure your funny has to be concrete

Back in the 1980s, just after the Civil War, when we were all licking our wounds, I did do this for a while. Part of me hated it. I never found my material funny, but people laughed at it. They didn’t realise I was serious.
I love audiences. I’ve always been the kind of shy that might find talking to individuals hard (but I got over it) but has absolutely no problem with hundreds. I loved watching an audience that didn’t know whether to laugh or open fire. I loved scratching the audience behind the ears, and rubbing its belly. Oh the power to make them purr.
I think I miss it.

I have done this in the past and got a few paid Gigs and kind of let it slide.
Its hard work alright. But that’s why I’m on this site! To figure out what I really want to do and to make an effort to do it.
I’ve signed up for two gigs – and I’ll let you know how they go :)
