i’ve just seen it. definitely one of my favorites.

to add to my collection!
this movie also had me rolling. The van, the teenage boy’s blowout, the way the family rallied at the end, etc. It was so out of the ordinary.
It appears that I’m the only person that didn’t like this movie. My friends and co-workers all thought it was hilarious, and all the online comments seem to agree.
I found it cruel and painful. The mother was constantly badgered and was fighting with every ounce of her strength to hold her household together. She and the children seemed to be the only ones that weren’t constantly verbally abusing everyone else. The only other person that had any positive attributes was held up as a subject of ridicule because he was gay and had tried to kill himself. The grandfather actually set-up his grand-daughter to be humiliated in public when it was obvious that this pageant meant a great deal to her.
Obviously I’m missing something in the movie that everyone else is seeing.
I watched this on New Year’s Day, as my first movie of the year for 2007. It was a great way to start the year!
Definitely one of my favourite films of all time. Steve Carrell and Paul Dano were amazing. And so was Abigail Breslin. She wasn’t overly cutesy. So completely endearing. I hope one of them gets nom for an oscar, just so that not another intense ‘method actor’ wins again. It’s getting boring no matter how good they are.
