I love my 8 month old boxer/lab/hound mix, but he is wild! He knows the basic ‘sit’ ‘lay down’ and ‘no bite’ but he still needs some work on the ‘no jump’ and ‘no bark’ and worst of all ‘no pulling when I take you for a walk’. I thought watching Ceaser Milan on TV could help, but I may need to enroll my pooch in some good old fashioned dog training classes!

How I did it: Well, beagles are smart and learn quickly. But they are also ruled by their nose. So even if they WANT to do what they're told, their nose often manages to distract them. Also for the longest time, our beagle would run out the door and go exploring the big smelly world. So we couldnt call him 'trained' as he would ignore our calls to come back. But after 3 years (and a two week stint in someone elses ho… Read how I did it…
How I did it: 1)DON'T GIVE UP! Some puppies just take longer than others.2) Keep it fun for them3) Make sure to give them LOTS of praise and love Read how I did it…

Twilight understands “stay” very well now. He stayed on his blanket while we ate dinner at Dale’s parents house. When we were done, he got his own plate and it was well deserved.
He does come and fetch but he still is totally stumped with sit. Overall, he is a very well-behaved six-month old Shipoo.
Everytime I think I have her trained, she lets me down. Granted, she’s only 3 months old. But still, we’ve been doing this for two weeks. Some days she does really well-when I am here to watch her and let her out exactly when she is supposed to go out. Whereas, everyone else is sort of haphazard.
Another problem, is that I have started letting her out in the backyard because she started running out into the street. So the new environment is something she must adjust to.
I just keep reminding myself (or trying to convince myself) that we are making progress everyday.
I just took her out and she tried to go in the spot (in the front yard) where she likes to go. I guess I’ll have to keep taking her out front to poop and then to the back to play, so she doesn’t run into the street. (I know about the leash law, but she won’t go at all on a leash.)
He chews, potties, and can be a real challenge… He was eating my journal and I pulled a quote out of his mouth.
“There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness.”
I never wanted revenge, but I cannot help but forgive my little buddy. He does not know any better… but this teething phase needs to go!
This is what someone said when they referred to my pup yesterday. Like any good mother of course I disagree. She is still a baby and is just excitable. Sure she jumps up on people when she first sees them and sure she doesn’t come when you call her but is that really ‘out of control’? That particular wording seems a bit harsh to me. That said, maybe, just maybe, we need to enroll in some formal training.
Chantel is working
well he just went poop on his potty matt. Unfortubately, I’m eating and trying not to smell it but hard not to breath out of your nose when you’re chewing…..
Chantel is working
and not quite potty trained. He gets pretty mouthy and tries to eat you. He also cries most the night because he doesn’t like sleeping alone in his kennel. I think I mught take him to puppy socialization classes once he gets all of his shots. Just need to teach him manners and discipline now. Trying to be the dog whisperer, but not quite mastering the techniques….
Every now and then I think I am making progress training my pup but then I realize that it is the other way around… she is actually training me.
My puppy is the most beautiful dog in the world. (Yes, that is my unbiased opinion.) But…she is also one of the most spoiled pooches too. She is generally very sweet and loving but if she doesn’t want to listen, well, she doesn’t. Like when I call her back to the house it is a crap shoot whether or not she will actually come in right away.
Signed up at an obedience class. He’s a JRT so lots of energy.
Worth it if only to get him to come when called.
