valleysailor saw Bruce Springsteen and it was totally AWESOME!!!!!!!
I don’t know how others did it, but for me, hypnosis was the key. $40 and two hours and I have been smoke-free since March 1, 1992, slightly more than 16 years. I rarely ever get colds or sinus infections, my hair and clothes and house don’t stink like cigarettes, I have amazing lung capacity (for an old lady), and I don’t get winded walking up a flight or three of stairs. I believe for hypnosis to work, you must first have an overwhelming DESIRE to quit smoking. Without that desire, no method of smoking cessation is going to work effectively.
Need a cheerleader? I’m here for you. I’d like the whole world to quit!!

So far I am doing okay on this goal. I quit smoking cigs cold turkey on December 11, 2006. I haven’t had any real debilitating urge to smoke since then, however last year I quit from February until July and then started back again with a vigor as if I had never stopped. Hopefully this time will stick.

I have smoked since i was about 15 years old. I wasn’t a heavy smoker (albiet i need to lose weight, ha ha puns) often, but when i quit, which is going on about ninty days ago, i was up to about a pack a day. I work at a newspaper and my editor, who smokes more than a pack a day, would always say “Hey, want to go smoke?” or visa versa. So one day i decided that i was mad as hell and wasn’t going to take it anymore, and just quit cold turkey. There are days when its hard as hell to not smoke, and there are days when i ocassionally think about one, but have no desire. When i drink the urge to smoke isn’t there as much as it was. A lot of the times i dream about cigarettes, and in the dream i get the cathartic feeling of inhaling on a smoke, and the good feeling that it gave me. And i think that looking back i can realize just how good it actually made me feel to spark up a smoke. It felt really good, but it’s horrible for me and i know it so i said i have to quit. There is a line from the movie “A Scanner Darkly”, which deals with drug addiction, and basically to paraphrase, it says that there are two kinds of people, people who havn’t tried a drug, and people who are on the drug, there is no cold turkey. So i guess my goal is to prove that there is cold turkey, and im on it as long as i have to be, even if it means that im fighting the urge to smoke for the rest of my life. So here i go…
