So my kick-ass snowboard instructor (who also happens to be my friend) sent me this amazing email on how to approach this goal.
Key Points that I’m totally taking to heart:
1. Wear Body Armor
2. Pick the rail that looks most appealing to ME
3. Go faster than I think I should
4. Approach in a straight line
5. Don’t look at the rail while riding it
6. Keep knees bent (no really!)
and most importantly:
Take breaks and drink beer
grin
I can’t wait!!!

05-06 was my first season on a snowboard. It was absolutely amazing! I managed to go to the mountain 26 times. I started out just like everyone else, falling all over the place, and feeling about as awkward as anyone could ever feel.
By the end of the season I was hitting little kickers, never getting more than a foot of air, but getting air, none the less. I’m determined that this coming season, I’m going to hit my first rail. I’m not sure which board I’m going to use, because I’m a little concerned about how rails can damage my base – but hey, knowing my history, I’ll get a new board at the end of next season anyway! :)
