Become a people person

I am one of those people that are up tight and don’t talk to me types. I am trying to be more caring and understanding. It is so hard.

I grew up with shy parents and thus never really learned how to socialize. I have become a lot better since meeting my husband. He is more outgoing than I am and thus I’ve been “forced” into situations where on my own I would have been too scared to go. Also through nursing school I’ve been “forced” to enter patients’ rooms and strike up a conversation with a stranger. I know this is something my husband and I both need to improve on in order to further our careers.

How I plan to do it:
I’ve ordered the book Be a People Person by John Maxwell. My husband and I are goinig to read it together. I will also set goals and challenges for myself. Right now my first goal(s) are to smile more, be more optimistic, and greet people with a positive attitude.

I want to become a better people person.

I thought I would totally kick-ass as a people person because I dig people, they’re sometimes cool. But then I came to the realization that the sometimes are few and far between. And on the whole, people are assholes, once you actually start talking to them. So I’ve decided to become blissfully ignorant instead, and I must say I have been much better off.

I admire people persons. Their great, trusty, kind, generous and if I say so myself I have those qualities just need to work on them!
