In P.E. when ever we run I always run out of breath and end up very exhausted. My P.E. teacher told us that if we are excused after running a short distance than we are in bad shape. So I want to get healthier and in shape. I want to not die after I run.

How I did it: I started out run/walking for a few weeks. I increased my runs to three or four miles every other day. The key is to add miles gradually. If try to run too much too soon you will most likely become injured. Within four months I ran my first 10 mile race. Less than two years later, I ran a full Marathon! I am 40 years old and was a total couch potato. If I could do this, anyone can! Read how I did it…

I’m signing up for a 5k in November – one month away! – and I’m starting to train for it. I don’t think I’ll be able to run the entirety of the 5k, but I want to be able to run part of it. I started this morning by alternating walking and running. I’d choose a stretch of my route and decide to run between two landmarks (like the end of the street to the next crosswalk) and then walk until I chose my next landmark. Hopefully I’ll be able to run longer distances soon.

I have run twice now, not for very long or far or fast, but it was running nonetheless!
I can’t wait to do it again!
I just finished Born to Run: a hidden tribe, superathletes, and the greatest race the world has never seen (ISBN: 978-0307266309). The book covers running techniques, superathletes, and the drive to run wrapped into an engrossing and humerous storyline. I couldn’t put it down and found myself literally laughing out loud, which looked strange on the bus but cleared the seats around me.
Christopher McDougall discusses the coprrelation of the advent of running injuries and the invention of running shoes. This is very interesting but, due to where I’m running, I’m not going barefoot anytime soon.
My favorite aspect of this book is that it’s all true, so you can find more information about all of the characters doing a simple google search. It’s amazing to see the faces of the characters and see their descriptions fit them perfectly. Check it out if you’re looking for inspiration or just a good read.
well – i’ve spent years as a chef; too many more living the life that goes along with. my attitudes towards food has changed heaps recently and now I feel a pull towards focusing on my health. Looking at all the posts running seems to be very rewarding.
I’ve been a smoker for a long time which has been the main reason I haven’t taken the plunge. Now I’ve quit – I’m off to get some shoes and hit the paddock! Here comes a new chapter in life!
I’m not quitting running. The last time I went out I began to enjoy it, truly(!), not begrudgingly. It is getting colder, though, so I may take a sabbatical and use an indoor bike to get through the winter.
Either that or I’ll follow some migratory birds and fly south.

Yay! I have finally got the shoes I wanted. Now I just need to get out there and start running! Which I am both excited and nervous about. Although I’m sure I have nothing to worry about, because I’m going to take it slowly to begin with, to get used to it and build up my strength. For ages I’ve been saying I want to do this, but this time, I’m going to make sure I do start and stick to it!

I need to get new sneakers before I can start so I am just waiting for the funds to be available. Then I will start with walking 5 minutes, running 1 minute, repeat, repeat, repeat!

I am determined to let this be more than just another wish. I’ve been reading reviews about different running shoes on the internet, and I’ve decided that once I get paid, my money will wisely go towards getting some that fit me well, rather than doing as I usually do, and just buying something for it’s cheapness, rather than quality.
I am not as healthy as I could and should be, which before would have put me off starting to run. But I see that’s just a silly way to think, and that by running regularly, and not pushing myself too hard to begin with, I’ll gradually improve and get fitter. I really hope I’ll get somewhere with this!

And so it began! No, I haven’t seen a doctor yet, but I’ve moved 3 times in 2 years: São Paulo, Porto Alegre and now Rio de Janeiro.
Aham, aham, I’m next to the beach now and Rio has something natural that drives you to health. Yesterday I bought a pair of Nike+ running sneakers. Today I ran and walked during a bit more than 1 hour.
I have to exercise my breathing during the running, but today was a nice day. Now I did some research about how to breath during exercise. I’ll try it next time.
Run makes you happy. Yes, sir.
