How to drive cross country

 "A great trip that I am glad to have shared with my parents."
How I did it: I have always wanted to live on the other side of the country, so when I had the opportunity to I went for it. I was 23 at the time and it was the middle of winter so my parents decided to drive with me. I went on line and had a map made out of every turn we would make (we still got lost). We drove 3 days saw Mount Rushmore and the arch thing( I should know what what its called), some crazy driving, we did some crazy driving, missed the same exit in the middle of the night 7 or 8 times. Let mom drive, 5 minutes later she took an exit we did need then swerved back onto the freeway. My car is out of alignment to this day. Lessons & tips: Don't always trust the map. Drive with the flow of traffic no matter how fast or slow it is, you are safer this way. |

I recommend doing this with someone you love and can communicate with. My friend and I had our moments of frustration but we are able to work through them and have a lot of fun. there’s a slight possibility I might be able to ride across country. Wouldn’t be able to drive, but I still might get to see a bunch of states I haven’t been to before. I need to make it happen! I would like to do it within the next month. I think it would be an awesome experience.

I would like to use summer vacation to drive from Phila to San Francisco or Napa Valley with my two daughters. I wanted drive there and then fly back (I don’t think I can handle a round trip). What is the best way to a plan this reasonably?

Hmm, just how long does it take to drive across the whole country? What about sleeping arrangements along the way? I suppose it’s not really feasible to ride a motorcycle across the whole country, kekeke.

In a uhaul with a husband, 2 year old in diapers, 2 dogs and a cat. Whew! I would never want to do that again in a million years! It would be fun to do it again some time under better conditions and with time to meander around and explore.

i drove cross-country in 4.5 days, via I-80, which was far too fast. if you have the time, i suggest taking two weeks to make the trip. you could plan destinations, but its the quirky, random stops that you remember the most.

i think Seattle would be a good destination point…
I recently drove from SC to MA, across NY and down through WV…. it was long… very long.
and i think there should be more drivers involved than 2.

It seems like it would have been more doable 10, maybe even 5 years ago and while I still think that the experience would be great, sitting in a car for long periods of time is not that appealing for me.
Since I live in NYC I don’t drive. When I am on vacation and public transportation sucks, I relegate driving to my husband. I have road rage (maybe influenced by taxi drivers) and get car sick after long periods of time.
I’ve driven along the California coast and had a great time singing (loudly and badly), stopping for pics, and playing random word games. So, I might still have it in my to do this- but for now it isn’t a goal.
Morgan is finally leaving the hotel and driving to Iowa from Denver.
