After planning for almost a year, we took 10 days to drive from CT to San Francisco and flew back. We knew we were going to be short on time, but this was all we could take off from work so we sucked it up and raced through some of it. A full 2 weeks would have given us just enough time to fit everything in, but even so, we still would have said we wanted more time when we were done. To be honest, the driving really didn’t even faze me at all. We typically fit in about 8 hours a day, with one day of doubling up and doing 16 to get from Arches National Park in Utah to Portland, Oregon. Overall, it truly did live up to everything I was hoping for and would recommend it to anyone.
One of our most difficult hurdles was keeping everything going on a very tight budget. Check out my article on some money-saving tips if you’re in the same boat:

Best decision ever made. Drove South to Atlanta Ga, then across route 10 to San Diego then up the coast. Only used an Atlas. It was amazing. I now moved to San Francisco, dont really think the city is for me but I dont regret it!

Either across Canada to the east coast (or to BC too I guess!) or across the US.
Would love to do it in a convertible, with my dog. Would love to not do it alone.

there’s a slight possibility I might be able to ride across country. Wouldn’t be able to drive, but I still might get to see a bunch of states I haven’t been to before. I need to make it happen! I would like to do it within the next month. I think it would be an awesome experience.

I would like to use summer vacation to drive from Phila to San Francisco or Napa Valley with my two daughters. I wanted drive there and then fly back (I don’t think I can handle a round trip). What is the best way to a plan this reasonably?

Hmm, just how long does it take to drive across the whole country? What about sleeping arrangements along the way? I suppose it’s not really feasible to ride a motorcycle across the whole country, kekeke.

In a uhaul with a husband, 2 year old in diapers, 2 dogs and a cat. Whew! I would never want to do that again in a million years! It would be fun to do it again some time under better conditions and with time to meander around and explore.

i drove cross-country in 4.5 days, via I-80, which was far too fast. if you have the time, i suggest taking two weeks to make the trip. you could plan destinations, but its the quirky, random stops that you remember the most.
