About two years ago, I did a stand-up act as part of a talent show for a summer camp. I wrote most of the material sitting in my car right before I was supposed to go on. I didn’t even write jokes, just concepts, names, and non sequiters as I thought of them. I kept this little note sheet in my pocket, thought back to certain entries, say, “Action movies” or “My cat won’t stop shedding” and just extrapolated from there. I was surprised at how easy it was to make people laugh.
