Dear Chicago Public Library,
Why are you making me fail at this? I’m not buying new books, but I’m not reading the ones I do own because of you and your abundant treasures. And then you come out with the fall selection for One Book, One Chicago, which means brand new books with uncracked bindings. You know I can’t resist that. Why must you taunt me like this? I’d say we should maybe give it a rest, but let’s be honest, that won’t happen any time soon.
Lustfully yours,
Kim

Yeah…no progress still…but I did read four other books in the meantime…

Finally finished number 2, not unfortunately out of 11 rather than 10. To make matters worse I’ll have a bunch of reading for school and then this pile of books will sit just like before :(

I just want to read more. I don’t care if I read everything I own or not.

I’m giving up because this feels a little negative. I enjoy reading, I don’t think of it as a chore. I’d rather have an anti-library anyway.

To simplify, and ideally motivate myself, to do this task, I’m reducing what I’m considering my books. Right now, it’s just fiction that counts. The ones I’m focusing on are the following 10, which are all on Peter Boxall’s 1001 Books to Read Before You Die:

*Main Street—Lewis
*A Clockwork Orange—Burgess
*The Great Gatsby—Fitzgerald
*The Picture of Dorian Gray—Wilde
*Fahrenheit 451—Bradbury
*1984—Orwell
*Of Mice and Men—Steinbeck
*The Sun Also Rises—Hemingway
*Rebecca-DuMaurier
*Memoirs of a Geisha-Golden

(Yes, I know that the last two are new additions to my list. I got Rebecca for free and couldn’t let it pass, and Memoirs was in the garage sale pile at home and I yoinked it for the same reason.)

Glad to know I am not the only one with books on my shelf!  — 4 weeks ago

I have 81 books (and counting more on the way from amazon)that have not been read yet. My husband is not to happy with my growning book collection. But I read about 3-5 books a week. Most of them are Romance (contemporary and historical) with some mystery and fiction mixed in here and there.

It drives him nuts because it seams like every time I get a package from the post office it is more books from Amazon.

We are a military family living overseas so its not like I can hop over to the book store and grab a book I will like when I am done reading one. Plus I dont work and I only watch a little TV so I have lots of time to read.

So at the moment I am reading a book that I think I got back in November (so I am reading some of those older Books), Its called a Rose from the Dead by Kate Collins. Its a very funny flower shop mystery with a little romance mixed in. Since I am a florist I couldnt pass this book up.

Almost done with book one...  — 4 weeks ago

It is turning out to be a very interesting book. I have roughly 20 pages left. Next on my list is The Hindi-Bindi Club.

Books everywhere!  — 4 weeks ago

So I checked one out of the library a few months ago and read that. Then I read one from my old collection. Started another one I read along time ago and then bought a new one. I’m all over the place! Maybe the ones I have that I haven’t read just don’t interest me now and I should give them away. I don’t want to do that though…i’ll just keep this as an ongoing goal even though it could take years!
