    Mr. Doubt 19 months ago

I am struggling today. I’m not sure if I feel guilty because I took the day off walking for no good reason. Or if its loosing out on that exercise high I’m so used to now. But for some reason what was supposed to have been a nice break and a day to spend with my Baze has turned into kind of a bummer. Stupid Mr. Doubt, always so critical of every decision I make. Go away. I’m determined to have a great day! Because I am worth it!

    Walking... 19 months ago

I actually started aiming for this goal in February….or maybe December. But Kept getting all wrapped up in the details that I was doing less and less walking. And it seems, much like other people with this goal, my walking has been dependant upon things that are completely out of my control(weather, babies). So I decided in February that I would schedule a walk in every weekday at the Y. I made it a simple workout on the treadmill(I’m not very good at keeping track of how fast I’m going on the track…I tend to daydream and slow down.). This way I just set it to do the “Fat burn” workout for 50 min, set the speed and it measures my heartrate and ups the incline to keep my heartrate up. The really great thing is that instead of worrying if I’m going fast enough I can just let my mind wander. And as my incline goes to the highest settings I know its time to up th speed again.

So I go to the Y at the same time every morning and Little Baze gets to socialize with the Nursery ladies and I get my workout in. I’m not going to say I’ve done it every single morning since Feb. Because I haven’t. But doing this has also taught me that sometimes reality IS completely different than “the plan” and beating myself up about missing every once in a while only makes me dread walking. So I’m learning to be a little more compassionate with myself. Which I think is a great bonus….

It's like my life is on hold till August 27th..... 2 years ago

That day, both of my kids will be back at school, instead of home with me for the summer.

Then I might be able to actually walk 5 days a week, and de-clutter my house. Cause right now there is no way I can do those things, not with 2 kids to get in my way.

And of course, then I will miss them fiercely, and probably try to use that as an excuse not to work on my things…..

I still do it whenever the weather permits, but that’s not as frequently as I would like.

I think I might have to change this to “walk whenever I’m not going to die of a heat stroke.”

I’ve been exercising regularly, indoors, since it’s become blatantly summer, and must therefore off this goal and replace it with a more realistic one.

I failed last week, walking only four days. In my defense, it was stormy on one of those missed days.

I’m not off to a brilliant start this week, either, considering I didn’t go today. I woke up too late.

    Tomorrow. I promise.

I didn’t walk on Sunday or Monday, so today, I had to, and I did. I love it. I find every time I walk that path, it seems shorter. Three miles just fly by.

Today it was beautiful. The frogs were making that awesome lulling noise I love. I wanted to just sit there and listen to them. I think tomorrow I’ll bring my minirecorder.

Also, the foliage was intoxicatingly fragrant in some parts. I like the path. It’s becoming my home. I hope I get up early enough to walk before my appointment tomorrow (I don’t know that I’ll get back in time to walk after it).

I think it’s helping me cope with everything (ie, my recent breakup). Not directly, but, it’s bringing me some peace. I think.

It’s similar to mediation, for me. I get into this zone when I walk sometimes and my mind just goes on and on and on, but it only works when I’m alone; if someone else is on the path, I’m uneasy until they’re out of sight.

I tend to think about my posture, too, which helps.

I walk on a section of this bike/jogging path about a half of a mile away from my house. It’s a mile to the end, so walking the length of the section and back from home gives me about three miles, which is fair enough.

I’m not going to say I’ll walk every day, but I wanted to walk at least four times a week. However, five seems oh so much sexier.

I prefer to walk before breakfast so that my body will be using stored fat rather than going on new sugars or carbohydrates for energy.

Hopefully this will help me get rid of my calves (god I hate them).
