I saw a similar entry that was posted 3 weeks ago. I can’t read music, but I’ve GOT to learn Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace. If that doesn’t kill me, I’ll continue with more. What’s the first thing I should do?

I know one thing for sure is that I won’t buy pipes for a while. Im going to stick to the chanter until i get the feel of it. I have no idea if there is a teacher where I live but i sure hope so! I was looking on e-bay at prices and found everything from 150$ to 1500+. I’m thinking that if im serious about this then spending 1000 is a minor thing.
well i have bought a practice chanter and the piping “green book” gonna be a helluva ride but im looking forward to it
I’ve been playing for 9 years and I love it. A word of warning though, it does take a lot of time to devote to practicing if you want to get any good. But believe me, all the time and effort is worth it to get the sound that stops people in their tracks.
If you want to learn the pipes, take lessons from a reputable teacher (if possible) and it helps to join a band. Don’t buy bagpipes before you talk to a reputable teacher or piper. All you need begin lessons is the practice chanter, not the bagpipes themselves.
I am a “young” person.. ripe age of 19 who is very interested in learning the pipes. PLEASE HELP! What’s the quickest way for me to get good so I can play in a celtic band.. I can’t play guitar very well.. but I have a feeling i could play the pipes.
I’ve been playing the bagpipes now for 20 years and love it. I still play and have my own Celtic fusion band (Lucid Druid) & frequently write bagpipe music. It’s definitely a challenge, and harder to learn if you start after you’re 20, but regardless I’d say go for it – bagpipes totally rock!
