a positive note for the future? 2 years ago

when i started thinking about the state of our planet i was quite depressed about what we were doing to it..

but recently there seems to be more and more of a push towards preserving the planet. maybe the powers at the top have suddenly realised that something MUST be done and now theyre trying to make the masses comply.

its only recently that we’ve been able to have recyclable products collected from our homes, to watch programmes on self sufficiency on the tv, and to get government grants to support ecologically friendly projects.
world leaders are regularly discussing enviroment issues and theres an entirely self sufficient housing development planned for london.

maybe its because i have become more involved in these issues recently that i am noticing things more. or maybe the world is (very slowly) becoming a better place

I suck at this. 2 years ago

    not much more to say

oil, natural resources, (nuclear) 2 years ago

first of all – it feels great to be sorting things out like this! i feel very positive about everything.

i’d like to have: change in natural resources / end of oil. im interested in nuclear power too and could do both if necessary.

accountability of relevant organisations could be split up between us: ie each topic deals with the organisations that are relevant to it. what d’ya recon?

    Now.. 2 years ago

Now we should pick topics.. I think each of us should have a major concern. Mine is definitely “wars”.

But my sub-concern will definitely be “poverty and children”, which does not mean I cannot support all the other topics.

Soon I’ll try to list the things I/we can do about the topics “wars” and “poverty and children”.

    The enforcers 2 years ago

I think (such a dangerous habit), that we should more than anything audit the organizations currently in place to “look after the globe” and see if they are accomplishing the goals they set for themselves.

I’m quite disturbed by the fact that the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty has turned into a global joke and Green Peace is better known for scandalous demonstrations rather than serious research, and don’t get me started on the UN.

Accountability, accountability, accountability… what ever happened to holding organizations accountable for their work? Where are the global auditors and enforcers? If you find them, you let me know.

    Untitled 2 years ago

i’m most passionate about the physical state of the planet.
    -global warming
-change in natural resources / end of oil as a fuel.

i feel that the earth will change fundamentally within my lifetime because of these factors and i want to do all i can to ensure that the future is as bright as possible.
and i want to try and limit the damages that will occur whilst these changes take place, such as countries fighting over dwindling oil supplies.

    Personal examples.. 2 years ago

I agree. It is impossible to save the world alone. But it is possible to do a lot personally and to organize many people for the same purpose.

How to start...? Examples? 2 years ago

I’ve found that when you bring this sort of goal up among people who don’t share the same passion, even if they are close to you, you usual get some raised eyebrows and the odd, good humored, chuckle. It can be discouraging, as I’m sure you all know. Many people like to fall back on “One person can’t make a difference”. The unfortunate thing is, that is absolutely true. If there was only one person in the world trying to fix things I’d say, for the first time, they were trying to do the impossible.

I think to truly accomplish our goals here, that we need to spread the passion we all have. No easy feat. What I try to do, is take every chance I get to be an example to those around me. Asking our friends not to litter is one of the easiset.

I’d like to hear your personal examples. I think sharing them would be quite encouraging.
