become an illustrator

Still working on the front cover with water colors. Even if I don’t get to publish this one it’s a great experience and I had the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. The interesting thing with watercolors is that there is little control over where the color goes. A great exercise for the controlling personalities!

I want to become an illustrator.. I hate drawing but I am decent at it. Im just.. only just passing year 12 and probably wont be able to go to university so Im gonna go free lance..

I have been trying to paint it for months now, how embarrassing to realize that I have limits, childish strokes, complete ignorance of the colors, etc.
I figured out the sky, just the sky took me 4 hours on photoshop, but came out ok enough for me not to retouch it again. The rest is being overwhelmed by the perfect sky; colors don’t match, no sense of unity, etc.
Next step would be to get references for the face, some work on the colors… At least I’m working on it with motivation, I was anticipating giving up a month ago. Perhaps seeing a problem in one’s work is not so bad after all, at least it shows the path to improvement.
P.S What colors would go nicely with a deep sky blue?

I’ve been putting off my illustration career for too long, it’s time to start pushing myself to… fulfil my DESTINY!

I sent a few pics and a short boook i made to author Dav Pilkey (maker of the captain underpants books)
He said that he was kinda shocked at the story…(asin he liked it X3) He said that my drwing where amazing.
I got a few tips on how to widen my drwing abilities and to send in more pics and stories.
Just thought you all out there would like to know.

I had a vision of the most incredible cat (in my opinion), orange and pissy, a little messy, but standing tall and proud. I think as I finish this drawing it could go in my portfolio.

I drew a cartoon strip for the USF oracle in 2002 using my husband’s ideas. It was very time consuming and I got little gratification from it. Then to top it all off, the “Luann” cartoonist completely RIPPED me off, took our ideas and almost did one cartoon verbatim! So I wish I’d never done it because now someone else who had more money and more stature than me took my precious ideas and acted like they were his or her own. How do they sleep at night knowing they are hacks!?

I started getting modest freelance jobs, registered self employed and went part-time in my day job. I’m not doing too much at the mo cos I work fulltime. My website is here:
