"Hard work, persistence, faith in the gods, no matter what, were the keys for me."
How I did it: I went on witchvox, and started finding local groups to check out, and did lots of different things. I met lots of great people in all sorts of pagan communities, and different covens, and eventually met my future HP and HPs. As soon as I met Gardnerians, it felt like 'home' for me**. In Outer Court, I worked for almost two years to even get to initiation. But it was worth it, and because I loved it it wasn't like work. I learned a lot about myself too, as well as the gods.
**And I'm not saying it's better that other Traditions, or eclectic, it was just what worked for me. There are many fine choices out there.
Lessons & tips: Believe in yourself, work hard, read a lot about paganism, mythology, and also about science, geography, biology, etc. Trust your inner guide. Work with your gods and goddesses. Get out in nature, feel the season, rhythms, of whenever you live. Don't put anyone on a pedestal, see how they walk their walk. But also have compassion, and realize everyone's human, and has faults. Also get to know lots of people that are pagan so you can broaden your experience in the Craft.
Finally, do not get involved in 'witch wars'; where different people get into the 'I'm better than them' attitude.
Resources: Witchvox for all kinds of information on the pagan community, state by state, and different countries too.
