I had a penpal in Berlin whom I wrote to through my high school and college years, and after graduation when when we were both living on our own and I could afford to travel, he invited me to come to Germany to meet him and spend a couple of weeks with him. Even though we had never met in person, we shared so much of ourselves through our writing we felt very comfortable with each other and truly like old friends. Also, I had never been out of the country at that time so it was kind of nice to have my own personal tour guide and translator!
I am so glad ifound the site.I’ve been so bored and so,ithought it was enough for me to find apenpal.I just wish to have apenpal.Penpals ohhh penpals.
I went down to Fresno, Ca and spent a week with a snail mail pen pal in 2003. Had a blast. Actually hoping to go down there again soon. Most recently, I met my pen pal and best friend from NY. The only thing that sucked about it was the reason for her trip out here (funeral). We still managed to make the best of it though, and I’m hoping to go out and see her there next year.

As much as I’d like to, I think I’ve dropped the ball on this one for a little too long. Or a lot too long. Keeping in touch with people is an ongoing challenge for me.
I just got back from Japan this morning after spending 5 weeks with my Pen-Pal… 100% worth it :)
...my penpal. It was a long time coming. Nine years. He finally came to NYC and it was the coldest week of February, but it was amazing! The way he was on paper, he was in person…only less vocal (lol). Which was a good thing because it has been so long since I could sit/walk/eat/ramble with someone while in a comfortable silence. The best part was that we got what the other person was thinking about/laughing about/wanting to say without having any explanations.
I guess it is also because we’ve never stopped communicating. It started as emails/letters then moved on to text messages and random packages. We send each other flowers on our birthdays, though believe it or not it has been many a time that either one or the other has sent it on the wrong day.
I guess what I am saying is that, it is definitely a good thing when the real deal is as good as they are on paper.
I’m going to Ireland! grin

I found out that my pen pal from the Caribbean is going to school in France and studying abroad about 5 hours from where I live. How cool would that be if we arranged to see each other next year?
Well looks like I’m going to visit her in the month of October… I’m excited… Never did anything like this before :)
