To get BSG firmly planted on your brain: have your DVD player set to repeat and leave your TV with the volume turned down slightly while you sleep.

I’ve just got to. Already there have been like 3 new episodes of Galactica and it is getting harder and harder to avoid spoilers. I managed to watch 4 episodes last night by working hard during the day and then blowing off work from like 8:30 on. Now I just have three more left in seasons 2. I am probably being ridiculous, but this is just the way I’m going to do things.
Since the new season already started. Fortunately for TIVO I can take my time.
I hadn’t caught the final 2 episodes of Season 2, & rather than download them from iTunes I figured I’d wait until I got the DVDs. Well, I finished wathing them last night, and all I can say is “Oh, crap! What the frak are they gonna do now??”
Valiantly resisting the urge to check for spoilers on the net until the premier of S3….
Just one more episode to go. I don’t usually enjoy rewatching TV shows and there are almost none that I would actually want to rewatch, but I am enjoying Galactica almost as much the second time through as the first time. I think I had already seen many of the season 1 episodes multiple times, but there were things that I didn’t remember or things that I hadn’t picked up on. Season 2 is going to be fun because I have only seen those episodes once and there is a lot that I can’t remember.
Once I have done that, then I will check out the web-only mini-episodes. Yay! Dorkiness abounds!
What with moving to a new state and all. When does the new season start? (Ie, how much time do I have?)
But I think that the new BG contains one of the best treatments of 9/11 and the “War on Terror” in film or tv. Obviously, it is not actually about “our” 9/11. However, when rewatching the mini-series recently, I was struck in several places by the imagery and how similar it seemed to certain images from 9/11.
I also think that the show deals with certain themes arising from the war on terror in a very thoughful way and without providing easy answers about the “right way” – either for the characters in the show or for us in the real world. What rights will people give up when they feel threatened? Can the government break the law in an emergency? Is torture ever justified? Etc…etc….
This, and the great interactions between the characters on the show, is one of the (many) things that sets this show apart from ordinary science fiction shows. The show is really about relationships and issues – not about bizarro technology or the alien of the week.
I bought myself the season 1/miniseries disc and the first half of the second season discs. I am going to visit my parents soon, so this will be a fun thing to do when they go to bed early.
I just can’t help it. Galactica is such a good show. I finish my summer Arabic program in less than a week and then I am getting the DVDs for myself as a congratulatory present. I deserve to loaf around for a week!
