We were in the Meridel LeSueur room, which has probably been renamed and remodeled now (don’t blame us). My kid didn’t enjoy the trundle bed so much, but a kind guest did invite us up to check out her Dr. Seuss room.
The hotel owner was distrustful of my child’s ability to behave himself, but he quite charmed the front desk staff and fed the hotel’s cat Dickens some bacon from breakfast.
I would absolutely go again. Even with $6/gallon gas prices. 3 years ago

And it’s not too far from my brother’s home. (Okay, so it’s totally across the country from MY home, but we are talking about GOALS here people!!!) 3 years ago

Now, my latest show opens on April 11. I am not sure if I will once again maniacally book myself for another show. There are auditions coming out… so we will see.
BUT I WOULD LOVE TO GO before the end of the school year or else the next time that would work would be after October or so.

Just did a Mapquest driving directions thing and I am looking at a 13 hour drive. Luckily I love driving… and most of it is a straight shot up the Interstate 5.
At least up to Sacramento that will be like driving down memory lane.
I feel like this is an important goal for me, at this exact time, so I am crossing fingers, etc. to see that Sam gets settled into school with relative ease and I feel ok leaving home to go on this version of a trip to Mecca.
I really need it. 4 years ago

You happen upon goals like this, like dvm2b posted yesterday.
When I learned this place is in Oregon… and definitely in reach of a shortish trip, I thought… “Why the heck not?”
It is a book lovers paradise. I can stay in the Emily Dickinson room, the Colette room, the Oscar Wilde room, the Tennessee Williams room… can you say “Heaven?”
I can! Check it out, here
AND… coincidence? My birthday is the least expensive time of year at the Sylvia Beach Hotel. I have a date in mind, an aim! 4 years ago

The most relaxing, friendly, comfortable hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The Jane Austen has a cozy writing/reading nook with a fabulous view of the ocean … and is just steps from the free coffee and mulled wine! Wander in your PJs and slippers down the hall to the warm living room, say good morning to the other guests, and help yourself to a bit of coffee to great the morning with. Repeat as necessary to maintain sanity. 4 years ago

let’s see, we’ve slept in poe, agatha christy, colette, twain, and a few others. my favorite is the twain room with its lovely fireplace, claw-foot tub, and deck with ocean view. ahh, i hope to return some day. we used to go twice a year – before we had kids. 6 years ago

I’d probably take the F. Scott Fitzgerald room if I could be certain the room wouldn’t be spinning when I woke up. I first learned of this hotel thirteen years ago, and have wanted to sleep there—no radio, no phone, just books and wine and the ocean surf. Ahh. 7 years ago
