How to meet alex kapranos
How I did it: I went to see Franz many nights in a row, persisted, made friends with the staff, waited on luck to work and everything fall together... The first night I saw them it was raining, and I didn't think he would come out so I left (turns out I was wrong, it just took him awhile cause he didn't think any of *us* would stay LOL). The next night the band didn't show up for hours and I had a long drive, so again, had to leave. But the third night I knew I wouldn't see them again for a long time, so I waited however long it took, and really it wasn't long at all until they did come out. I also helped a few other fans/new friends of mine so it worked out quite well. We had a great time, it was a great show the last night of the tour, and I think (well, hope!) everyone left with good memories that will last a long time. I know I will never forget it, and am counting down the days until I can see the band again, and have the opportunity to talk with this awesome man again and thank him for all the good times & sounds he's given me and the lot of us, and for just being a cool person.
Lessons & tips: Just be cool, he's so friendly and will talk about almost anything with you. I don't know what the future holds, but this tour, it seems like Alex and the other guys really like speaking with their fans.
Don't act too crazy/fangirly - it's just rude, and it gives the rest of us a bad name. If too many people can't respect the privilege of the bandmembers still being willing to meet fans, we'll lose it, and that would suck.
Don't try to molest anyone. Ick. Behave yourself, and you'll get a photo and maybe a hug. But really, he has a girlfriend and is a human being like the rest of us, you don't need to grope. You wouldn't like it if some strange guy groped you.
Try not to piss of venue/band security. Do your best to find where the best place to be is (preferably before the show) and then stand where they tell you once you get there. So far, they've been really good to let people wait, as long as they remain orderly and listen. Sometimes they tell you they aren't coming out, and sometimes they're right.
Resources: Online fan communities for the band. I would've never even realized he meets with fans without them.
