to get your body used to eating different foods. After a while your body will crave it.

good physically, mentally, socially :-) 3 years ago

eating healthier actually made me appreciate food more…not sure way, but i can actually taste things now. Maybe all the sugar and stuff in the junk food overwhelmed my taste buds? (yes, this is all highly scientific)

I never hated the idea or practice of eating healthily though, because there’s so much you can do – tons of different combinations and new foods to try. Definitely cook as much as you can at home, not only do you understand what’s going into your meals but it’s also pretty fulfilling to eat something you helped make :-) It’s also been really good socially; I like cooking with other people (sticking a frozen dinner in the microwave doesn’t allow for much interaction)

Someone mentioned below that healthy food is expensive….that’s definitely true for some things, especially some of the more prepackaged stuff. Veggies can also get expensive – so the best thing i’ve found is to bulk meals out with dried beans, rice, couscous, noodles etc. Lots of cheap stuff you can buy in bags that adds substance to the meal. Definitely works out cheaper than salad, or a plate of just veggies. Dried spices are also much cheaper than sauces (which can often have dodgy stuff in them too….)

Also, frozen or tinned fruit is sometimes cheaper than fresh, if you can get a good deal, and it’s better than no fruit at all :-)

It’s all about being creative, finding new tastes you didn’t know about before and experimenting.

A Good Start.... 3 years ago

I’m just now starting to introduce fresher, healthier foods into my life. Yes, I still eat lots of the crap I love. But I’m learning to cut down on that stuff (not eliminate it completely!) and aquire a taste for some of the foods that are better for…...all of us! BTW, eating healthier will eventually lead me to achieve one of my other goals…lose weight!

me and my DH have virtually stopped consuming processed foods. we do not eat anything with “natural flavours” and “natural additives”. we consume less and less sugar and carbs, and more and more protein, vegetables and good fat. it started because of health issues, but instead of suffering through this, we decided to make it fun.
we cook together on a daily basis. and believe me, we don’t have more time than you do. he rarely gets home before 20:00, and i usually have 2 more hours spent preparing for working out, working out, and returning home. so really, us spending time together cooking could have well been otherwise spent sleeping… but instead we cook together, concocting new and exciting dishes from the limited resources that we got, and it comes out just fabulous. (if i may say so myself:) not to mention it being a nice quality time.
