leslieannelevine is making headbands. yes, headbands. i feel like they're overpriced.
How I did it: i had virgin hair prior to this; no dying or highlighting. very rare for a girl of 23. however, i was elated with the result. i went for subtle highlights that would eventually fade as the summer wears on, and am entirely satisfied. Read how I did it…

The last time I had highlights put in my hair, my mom did them. They turned out gorgeous .. but in fear of making my hair too light, I’ve put off getting them re-done for about 2 years now. My hair still looks pretty, but I hate how the majority of the color on top is obviously a little darker.
I am coming off an craptastic divorce/foreclosure/bankruptcy. I need a change. I have this stupid box of dye for two weeks now… sitting in my bathroom cabinet… just staring at me…. I used to dye my hair all the time… not sure why I can’t break down and just do it. For whatever reason it has become a HUGE mental obstacle for me… well… tonight… I am going to make another attempt not to avoid it and just get it done.
mrsafrommaine loves to camp!
when I finally grow it back out to one color I decided I want to change it again. This time, I think I might try something new and go a bit reddish. Sorta strawberry blond if you will.
And I`m so lucky!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
My hair is now black with red highlight!!

So I finally got up the courage to get a new hairstyle—and to get highlights. I love my new do and get compliments all the time. What a simple way to boost esteem.
But if you’re going to get them, you have to pony up the dough to keep them nice. I had to throw out all of my hair products and buy new “color safe” ones. If you cheap out on this part, your highlights will get brassy. All that money you spent on them will be wasted!
So, I’d say getting highlights is worth doing. However, once you include maintenance costs it ended up being much more costly than I had thought it would be.
Well, after almost a year of wanting, I finally got my hair highlighted today. I got my base lightened from my dark chestnut color to a copper brown. I also have some great red highlights. Go me!
The only problem I have is I think my hair was cut a little too short. Ah, well. It’ll grow back. It’ll be back to its original length by September.
