Own a small business

We found a great small farm business class. It is very intense, but our business will be so much better for it. We are focusing on getting the mobile repair business up and running. So far, we have worked out that our business is feasible, surveyed people with ag equipment, researched our industry and our competition, and figured out our pricing and marketing. We are currently working on cash flow predictions for the first year and finalizing our business plan. We are also working on getting insurance quotes. We are probably going to set it up as an LLC. My husband and I want to run a farm, a mobile welding business and a stock photography business. He would do the welding and I would do the photography. The other day, we went to a class on starting a business run by the Small Business Development Center. It was mostly an overview, but they gave us lots of reading material. Tomorrow we will be going to an orientation for starting a small farm business. The welding falls under that since he will be focusing on agricultural equipment.

I’ve found what I love and I’ve been doing it for 9 years. I think that’s the key in life. It doesn’t matter where you are, who you’re with, or WHAT you’re doing so long as you’re happy. My passion is my job and it’s kept me going. So I drive on, in the direction of owning my own small restaurant. Good luck, me. :)

I’ve only begun to start on my small business endeavor but ‘balance’ has already become a prominent theme.
Not too big, not too little.
Not too specialized, not too general.
Letting romantic ideas about running a business live next to the knowledge that it will take a lot of work and willpower.
The list goes on and on…

I have a business partner and together we approached our bosses about buying the store. It went really well and we are both now managers, in line to own. It’s so exciting! I hope to be checking this off in April 2008! Wish me luck!

This will probably be checked off when the “owning a theatre” is checked off, because that is a small business. I’m working on it right now, but I will check this off after our first show. We’re deciding now whether or not to become non-profit.
