I just want to say that I have just turned 37 and decided that I really just want to stop working and learn all I can about this world and where we all come from. I am so in love with Greek Mythology, since I have been helping my son study for all of his history tests. So this is something that I am going to do for me, and put the certificate right beside all of my husbands Navy acheivments. I guess it is never to late to realize that the sky is blue!

Who ever said life was easy, certainly not the Greeks, as a matter of fact even though one of their attempts is to clarify some of the more demystifying events of life, like life itself, complications, decisions, dilemma, intentions, Gods, demi-gods, strange occurrences, they also add much confusion to the score. It is complicated enough to think that a man by the name of Prometheus made fire and made life more enjoyable, then you are supposed to tie it together to neo-pathian time period meaning that man learned to create fire not a small feat. Or take for example the Hades, the god of the underworld, that is not a great job, but some bodys got to do it, the gate keeper so to speak. Then there is Hecate, pronounced He-ca-ty, Athena, Apolo, Then there are other areas like Homers The Illiad, and other peculiar and strange gods, such as Zeus. He is like God almighty even though he gets himself into some real pickles,he is able to transform himself into even a fly on the wall when he needs to get the right information, hence expressions like a “fly on the wall” got started. Greeks are a fascinating culture but the mythologys gave explanation to some very early beginnings which gives rise to another complete area how did we arrive on earth? Are we born to conflict with one another? How do we know there is a god or gods? Well, according to the Greeks Demeter which is if correct analogy is applied with out sounding (corny)she is Mother Earth. It was believed that when crops would not come, or there were dry spells it meant that she was upset regarding some unforeseen event. There are many particulars that involve anything from muses, Pan, Aphrodite, centaurs, and other strange beings that do strange things. I wish you a lot of luck trying to separate myth and legend and yes of course mixed with reality,I think that is what they call life.

I am back to listening to the Tales from the Greek Legends and enjoying them. I just wish I could remember more of what I am hearing. It might help if I didn’t wait until bedtime to listen! Oddly, these tales make sweet lullabies!

but I did find a fabulous audiobook on Naxos.com – Edward Ferrie’s Tales from the Greek Legends. I’ve been listening to it before I go to sleep each night and it is great! I’m on my way!

I have recently remembered that, when I was growing up, we had a full set of The Junior Classics and one of the volumes was on Myths and Legends. The books are still on the shelf in my bedroom at my mother’s house and she will bring them with her when we meet for lunch soon! Since I have such found memories of those books, I think it will be a perfect place to start!-

I am feeling very antsy to study something this fall and I have decided that this is it. I am going to poke around on the internet and in the bookstore and begin my study of Greek Mythology. It is time.

I am willing to give this a try. But I probably won’t be able to do too much before the holidays. Did you have anything in mind for how we could do this? I haven’t even picked out a book yet. Any thoughts?
