tomandshe is trying to escape from life on 43things for half an hour
We booked our motel over the weekend for $22 a night. We have also booke a taxi and guide to see Angkor Wat for about $45 day. So we are very excited and it certainly looks like a bargain holiday. I just need to reconfirm the motel before we go there.

Hotel Found.

We have been researching visiting angkor wat and found a really cost effective hotel. It is not only cheap but you can book tour guides and taxis through them very cheaply. This is looking like our place to be in 2011.

2011 or 2013.

We have been reserching this holiday for the past few weeks. It seems like a very cost effective alternative if our trip to Beijing does not work out. The visa for Australians is simple to apply for onlineand the flight would arrive at the local airport. This compares to Beijing where the Air Asia flight lands at Tianjin. In order to fly with QANTAS it would probably cost us $1400 more. So we certainly have a good back up in case we do not go to China and if we do not go this time (2011) we will certainly look at travelling to Angkor Wat in 2013.

I read a National Geographic article on Angkor yesterday. It made me want to go so much more! I honestly can’t wait until the day I am standing in one of the temples.

We have this as one of our possiblilites for a trip in two or three years time. It sounds spectacular and there are cheap flights out of Coolangatta to Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia nad we could then take a flight to Siem Reap. I hope there are still cheap flights around then

I’m planning on doing a long weekend at the beginning of February 2009, with preferably 3 days in Siem Reap and 1 day in Phnom Penh. Now, to find a travel buddy to do it with, and investigate flights!

Realeyes is living for something she can't even define
I went in the rainy season (less tourists) and I was on my own, so quite often I was alone in the temple, or it would be just me and a stray dog, or a monk, or a security guard. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life to wander through those temples in silence!

Did it in July 2005. Took a 4 hour bus from Bangkok to Poipet. From the border, hired a taxi to Siem Reap. The road in Cambodia was horrendous, dusty, and bumpy. The destination was worth it. The temples at Angkor Wat were truly an awesome experience. Best to check them out in person. Words fail. So glad I visited.
