I haven’t really ever enjoyed speaking publicly before. I remember a time when at university I had to stand up infront of the class and present… I hid behind the sheet of paper I was holding, petrified.
Since then, I have avoided most public speaking, including meeting new people. I work in sales, at some point I am going to have to stand up and present to an audience.
So, time to take action. Instead of just waiting for the situation to arise, I am going to get the experience before.
I have found out about a public speaking group, Toastmasters International. There is one just down the road from me. I am going to commit 1 year to this.

I’ve got an A on the biggest project I have ever done. :] It was really stressful, but it was worth doing.

I have a really big presentation coming up and I am really nervouse and anxious. I need to be more prepared so I won’t forget my speech. Wish me luck.. Overcoming my stage fright.

I will HAVE to do two presentations for work this year, the first smallish, the second very big and scary. I want to feel prepared. I need to make the most of this and see it as an opportunity as well as a challenge. I am considering doing a short course – public speaking for women – at a local uni. It’s more expensive than I can afford. Then again, it may pay dividends.

How do you organize … and by this I mean beyond the organization of an outline or flashcards. I always have these things, but I get so worried that I don’t look at my notes, and/or I forget everything that I have previously prepared. How do you practice alone?

My school district requires every student to take a semester of public speaking to graduate. I took it secon semester of my freshman year and it was awful. Working on public speaking because it’s a fear you want to overcome is great, being forced to take it just to graduate is the stupidest thing in the world. I think I showed up to that class 7 times, maybe 8. Deal with that Douglas County.

I’ve been developing and silently my presentation and training (bonus) skills since when I got my job at Google. Since I’m the Brazil’s product specialist, I have to give plenty of training sessions to over 50 people every week. Also, I have been receiving so many traning and feedback, so I can enhance my skills pretty fast.
My physical presence and body language is fine. My voice is strong. I just need to manage better the message and I will be pro!
