Oh my. As always at the end of a Robin Hobb book I was reluctant to let go of the characters but I have to admit that this time it was much easier than at the end of the Farseer books. Generally, this story felt a bit… farther away, emotionally, than Fitz’ story. I mean, I did cry at the end of The Mad Ship, but I’m very glad to be able to return to Fitz and the Fool (well… he’s been there all along) and see what my favourite people in Buckkeep have been up to.

I finished “The Mad Ship” a couple of days ago, in the middle of the night, with my eyes wanting to sleep and me not letting them. Wow! What an ending – yet another reason why I know that a book with Robin Hobb on the cover can only be extraordinary!
I’ve started with “Ship of Destiny” of course. As if I could have waited…
I am right in the middle of the second book in the second trilogy of trilogy… and although I can’t say I love the characters in this one as much as I did the ones from the Farseer books, I do enjoy every single word of it.
Plus, the very tender understated romance in these books is better than what little love there was in the first trilogy.
One way or another, I can’t stop reading which is bad for my grades but balm for my soul.
I am completely absorbed in this book. Although it is very different from the first trilogy, I like it a lot and one does recognize Robin Hobb’s style. Not only does she use beautiful language but her heroes and heroines suffer a great deal, right from the beginning of the book. I wonder if I’ll ever read a Robin Hobb book that is not totally depressing.
Not that I don’t like that every once in a while. Makes you appreciate the happy life you have all the more. ;)
... maybe I should see a doctor about this?
I’ve read the first trilogy (the Farseer trilogy) and every time I think back to it, I could start crying because it was so beautiful and moving. The second and third trilogy are standing proudly in my book shelf and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to read them in 2007.
Go, Fitz!
