Ingredients
4 teaspoons fresh grated ginger
2 cups water
4 teaspoons honey
2 cups seltzer water
Lemon slices
Ice
1. Finely chop or shred ginger in a food processor or with a hand grater. Boil water and add the ginger to it. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain.
2. Add honey. (More can be added to taste.)
3. Allow mixture to reach room temperature. Pour 1/2 cup in a glass. Add seltzer, a lemon slice, and ice. Stir and serve. Any leftover drink must be refrigerated or the mixture will begin to ferment and you’ll have ginger beer! Makes 4 servings.

Went to the local soymilk store and drank a pint. I told the manager that I was thinking of making my own and he said its too hard. He said cleaning the machines takes tons of time. Also, there isn’t a good local source of organic soybeans. They import them from Minnesota. Hawaii has major issues with importing what could grow here. I tried growing them in California(San Jose)and they wouldn’t grow there either. A bunch of local gardners and the ag extension were trying to figure it out.

There is a fresh soymilk restraunt near my work. I’ll go there tomorrow.
I went to Han Ah Reum and they had a soy milk/tofu maker for $200.
Let it sink in.
$200!!!!! To chop and warm some soaking beans! Are they insane?!
if you drink soy milk regularly you will totally save money, even if you buy a machine. my machine was like $80 and has paid for itself, because soy beans are almost free, and the milk is really easy to make. you can also make milk out of nuts or other things with the machines.
When on ebay and looking for soymilk makers, keep an eye out for the $19 soy milk soap direct from Tokyo.
I do see a few models on ebay, some of which look good, such as the Soy Milk Maker DJ-15A by Tayama. Any thoughts?
and maybe the beans too. I’ll try this for a while, and if its worth it, then this will be one of my best investments. Unfortunately this is somewhat low on my list of priorities, as I get some pretty damn good Soy Milk from Trader Joe’s In particular, their Soy Divine rocks. And it goes especially well with their Peanut Butter Panda Puffs cereal.
