Into the Africa

While I firmly believe any experience outside one’s ‘normal’ environment is worthy, a trip to Africa is beyond… anything I’ve experienced before, and I’ve travelled a lot in my life.
It reaches the most base of instincts within; like coming home. And I couldn’t be farther away from being a native (I’m a tall, white girl from the O.C.!), but for me, it really felt like touching upon from where I come; where we all come. From the animals to the people. I felt a sense of awe, respect, powerful emotion, and yes, guilt.
Nothing – except perhaps space travel – makes you put things in perspective better about the vastness of this world, and how vulnerable we ALL are, than staring out at the seemingly endless plains of the Masai Mara (that’s where I spent most of my time).
My first trip was my parents’ second. They have travelled all over the world, fortunately including me most of the time! They loved it so much, they not only went back a second time, taking me, but we’re all going back a THIRD time in the fall of ‘07.
Something everyone should do at least once in his/her lifetime!
I went on safari in South Africa. It was incredible—I saw all kinds of animals. The picture is me on safari with hippos in the background.
