lie in the grass and watch the clouds

Lie in the grass and watch the meteors. I’m happy the back lawn’s mowed. Still too much city light, but saw a couple of meteors tonight!

Particularly fun variant:

Lie in the grass in the evening, and watch for the first star to appear. It would be easier if there weren’t so many trees in the way.

A friend mentioned at lunch that she saw this goal, and got convinced to try it herself. She did it when she was doing her daily run—she finished a couple of laps around the track, then stopped, and lay down in the grass to look at the sky. Her running partner wasn’t so convinced by her new method of training, but she’ll convince him eventually.

It’s my first bit of realization that my forty-three-things list actually affects others. I’d started my list just to keep track of the things I’d hoped to achieve this year, but having an effect on others is certainly nice!

Spring hit the Bay Area last month, which means the garden wants tons of care. Now that I’m having to mow the lawn regularly, I’ll also be able to take a break after an afternoon of work, grab a beer, and watch the clouds.

Um.

Except that there were no clouds yesterday, just blue sky.

Time to change this goal to “lie in the grass and watch the leaves in the tree”. Or “lie in the grass and watch the squirrels.” Neither are anywhere near as poetic.

I’ve lain on the grass and stared at the stars before, but never clouds! Maybe once it stops raining I can get outside.
