To some it comes easy and to others it doesn’t. It took me only three hours to learn and know how to do it! i have a very strong back and a rock hard 6 pack. i did some handspring and back handsprings(my girlfriend should me how to).2 hours later i was doing front and back flips but landing on my butt so i practiced jumping for 15 minutes and 30 minutes later i was doing front and back flips on grass.
My new challenge is to run up walls and backflip off of them!!!

Seeing as I don’t have a trampoline or any known public place that looks safe enough to fall on my head, I felt kinda doomed to waiting until I could do a (one handed) handspring before doing a flip any place other than with a bouncy floor. Then I decided to try flipping off the diving board.
I tried this years ago, and landed on my back. Now don’t get me wrong, I can belly flop quite stiffly and it barely phases me, but hitting the water made me feel like someone had just taken a viking-sized paddle to my back.
I was able to pull it off this time, it wasn’t really clean but I was able to get the right rotation.
So then I figured, why not try a backflip?
It was scary, I won’t lie that most of the reason of why I can’t do even a back handspring is because I don’t know where I’m going. So I got in the position that the guy did in the youtube tutorial and jumped for it. I got REALLY close to hitting the board, hit the water with one shin(yea I don’t understand either) ut I have to say it felt good to know that I could spin backwards without the world ending. The next attempt got me even closer to the board, so I decided to call it quits for the day
last sunday I started to be able to do front handsprings. The landing is low and sloppy at best, but stll there’s no landing on my back or butt. I guess the next step, after lots of polishing, is doing them one handed!
I’ve done one on a trampoline and with those bungee cords, but I want to be able to do one without either(I think having a trampoline would really help though)
As for why, just because.
I want to be able to do flips just on regular ground like cement for Ninjutsu.
I’m currently working on strengthening my core (abs and lower back), by doing strengthening exercises 3 days a week. I’ve practiced doing the forward flip last summer (2005), and I was close. With a stronger core, I would be able to tuck in the air easily, and land it by next summer.
