I want to walk straight across the country from Washington, D.C. to Tuscon, AZ. I will not be able to stay in hotels everynight, and will have to figure out how to get food, as I am going to have a rather limited budget. How do I do this?

This is something I’ve wanted to do since about 9th grade. I always thought it would be something nice to look back on for the rest of my life – one of those humbling, introspective, get to know your homeland, journeys quintessential to achieving inner peace.
I need to finish Highschool before I do this and I need to figure out how much money I’d need. Food isn’t free afterall. I can sleep in a tent but the occasional motel room would be nice.
A list of necessary supplies would have to include:
A very good pair of walking shoes
Clothes (need to find out what kind of clothes, light, heavy, etc)
Backpack
camelback watersupply
That’s just the absolute mandatory. I’ll have to think a little more on it.
hell yeah i want to do this. how long od you think it would actually take? like 4 months? i would also consider walking from here (southeast michigan) to like new orleans, or from here to the michigan upper peninsula.
I’m going on a road trip this summer, which tecnically isn’t walking across the country, but it’s a first step. And I can still take pictures of abandoned buildings! I am looking forwards to this trip SO MUCH. I cannot wait.
I want to start a file with all of th places that I want to go in it. Also, for anyone who also wants to walk across the country, read the Weird U.S. books! They are full of places to go that are fun. I am especially in love with the abandomed places section. I want to go to all of those abandoned insane asylums!!
I think that I need to start a file with all of the places I want to go when I do my walk. I really want to go now, but I have to finish school, blah, blah, blah…. I wish I could just start walking away from here, but I am too conformist for that.
