Do you think etiquette is more prevalent or more rare in the mafia and crime scene? It is actually highly emphasized. Etiquette was developed as a way of lubricating social interaction – in a discussion between two knights, samurai, or even criminals, even a slight misunderstanding could be fatal. Hand shakes originated as a way of ensuring no weapons were held or hidden up sleeves.

Etiquette is so important. We may not be concerned about hidden daggers, but we are always concerned with our place in society, and unintentional insult still has consequences. Although I’m fairly versed in etiquette I am reading my Emily Post book all the way through, practicing it to the best of my ability, and then I will consider this goal complete.

Remember, the most important goal of etiquette is to make others comfortable. Don’t get caught up in the rules, just get caught up in the love and tender care of others!

I bought an etiquette book today. Now all I have to do is read it. I would LOVE to be more of a lady.

To some it matters... 4 years ago

It doesn’t matter to most people, but to the ones who do, it is definitely worth doing. They divide those who know from those who do not, and if you are accepted as one who does, it can afford many advantages.
In that society, they do not care so much about what you own or what you have, but they do care about appearances and good graces.
Even I (one of the have nots) am impatient with boorish people, male or female, who believe that being famous, or rich or important is all that matters.
The worst thing in life is someone who feels that they can be rude, just because they are more important than anyone else. As a devotee of Jesus Christ, I think humility is so endearing, especially from someone who can afford to be proud of who he is. When I see someone acting presumptuously or contemptuously, I always know that he is a “second class citizen” or he would not be so insecure.
