Honestly, it’s not as complicated as people make it. Unless you have really heavily soiled clothing you can usually just throw everything in and wash it on cold… of course, never put a bra in the dryer, and you might want to let other delicate items line dry. With brand new color clothing, wash it separately from other colors once, but after that it shouldn’t bleed. I suppose some people like to wash their whites in hot water to keep them from getting dingy, but other than that there really isn’t any reason to go through the whole process of separately all the colors, etc… it saves energy to use cold water for everything anyway.
People doing this are also doing these things:

I’ll admit it. It’s been my routine for 19 years now to just put the dirty clothes in a basket and then when it’s “laundry day” bring the basket downstairs for my mom to do. I mean, for Pete’s sake, I’m almost 20! This “mom-doing-my-laundry” thing is ending now.
ashgirl_guyhater Is going to be positive and happy everyday
will have to do this one weather i like it or not now that i’ll be going away to college!
I’ve done my laundry twice now, and I told my mom to let me continue to do it on my own. She’s never asked me to do my own laundry before so its probably wierd for her. I’m sure she doesn’t mind though lol ;)
ouas finished her 2nd marathon!
I’m going to be a big-kid one day, with no mommy to do my laundry for me… but in all seriousness, I’m gonna have to learn how one day, if I am to survive college (and not smell too bad).
..and will continue to repeatedly pursue this goal every sunday. hooray for maturity and independence! :)
What if the machine gobbles me up?
Ahhhh!
Either way, I’m just sort of afraid to use it. I’ll mess up all my clothes. My mother bitches about it every single week, and I really should start doing it for myself. But I keep avoiding it. =/
I started doing my own laundry when I was 12, after a fight with my mom about something she accidentally bleached that ended something like this: “Well, FINE … you can do your OWN laundry from now on!” The next day I went to Target and bought a hamper, and have never looked back lol. I seriously pity people who’re my age now (20) and have no idea how to use a washing machine. It’s a skill everyone should know.
it’s necessary if you want to be clean and socially acceptable.
