Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

avaraelNo regrets

I went to the hairdresser and got foils that bleached it. I remember being so scared the first time that i was sitting there beforehand shaking. After it was done I didn’t hate it but I didn’t really like it. It seems too white in places but it was also because change is always a bit jarring. I got used to it really quickly though. I felt so satisfied as it was something I’d wanted for a long time.

I actually waited a very long time to get it redone though. haha. I got away with it a bit because my hair was just a darker blonde but I really shouldn’t have waited 6 months. I loved it even more the second time and got the underside done as well! The price is offputting but I’m glad I got it done at the salon because I am rubbish at hair stuff. If you’re going to do it you are making a commitment though and it did make my hair slightly drier at first which I fixed with a good conditioner.

I definitely urge anyone who wants to do this to go for it. It’s a really good feeling. Don’t be afraid! 8 months ago

ZijueThis week

I think I will go ahead and dye my hair sometime this week – I’ve got 6 months of regrowth and although it is barely visible because of the colours I choose to dye my hair, it could do with a bit of freshening up and probably a cut as well. I’m almost certainly going for Bitter Sweet Chocolate :) 6 years ago

Right, I’m going with either Black Red or Bitter Sweet Chocolate by Schwarzkopf next. I hope to do this soon as I have very different colours in my hair all at once – thankfully all shades of brown, so they kind of blend at the moment :) 6 years ago

ZijueTo do again

I have been dyeing my hair for the last 5 years and am due another lot, but I’m unsure on the colour at the moment. I can’t do anything outrageous as it wouldn’t be appropriate for work – I’ll have to save it for holidays! :)

My hair colour is naturally mousey-brown, but I have dyed my hair chestnut brown, purple-black, dark brown (Schwarzkopf – Bitter Sweet Chocolate), and blue-black. I always go darker than my natural colour, so that limits my options to some extent.

I’ll probably go for Bitter Sweet Chocolate again, as this is very dark, without being as stark as black. I may do purple-black again in future, or maybe even red-black…

Emilia, I’m sure you’ll have recommendations! :) 6 years ago
