Samsquish is out adventuring!
I’m hoping to have a client who needs design work done in New York, because I’m going to the top of everything!
How I did it: We took the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park. The day we went, the line to the ferry was unbelievably long. We waited about two hours just to get on the ferry. And, because it was after 9/11, we also were subject to a security screening. Be sure to factor timing into your day, so you can get the most out of the island.

Roberto is doing what he does every night, Pinky... "...trying to take over THE WORLD!"
Visiting the statue is worth doing. The museum inside is interesting, too. However, the climb all the way to the top along very steep, very narrow steps to reach a small, cramped space full of other people is definitely not worth it, specially during the summer.

Don’t you think it would be such an amazing view from the top of Statue of Liberty? I going to go to the top when I got to New York in October, so I thought, Why don’t I make it a goal, make sure I don’t chicken out of it [cause I hate heights]
So I went about a year after Sept. 11 and they wouldn’t let me go up. And then a friend of mine went a couple months ago. She told me that you can’t go to the crown. I’ve wanted to go up there for yewars now, so are you allowed to?
Most New Yorkers never go, but I was hosting a tourist friend. So we made it up all the stairs, and had a ball.

I think that its much nicer to take the trip over & go up into the Statue up to the feet (I guess that’s the 10th floor).
I went years ago & stood in endless lines in the heat of the summer. The view from the crown was a letdown after the hours spent on the journey.
I went again in summer 2005 and the monument was only open up to the feet platform (because of 9/11 the upper portion was closed to tourists). I think that’s still the case today (January 2007).
It is still an amazing trip and definitely worth it!
This one is a toss up between worth doing and not worth doing. Going to the statue is something that everyone should do, but going up into the crown takes about 3 1/2 hours to get up there on a regular day. It’s hot, smells like a penny, and you’re in the top for oh…1 1/2 minutes. You can only fit about 7-8 people in the top, and everyone wants to get up there.
I would suggest just going to the tenth floor, you can ride the elevator, and say you were at the Statue of Liberty. We wasted too much time going all the way to the top.
travelmickey is in her thirties... eek!
When I went to visit the Statue of Liberty on freezing cold October morning with my family, we made sure we got the first boat over and waited by the gate to get off first (as my Mum had been there before). When the door’s of the boat were opened everyone sprinted as fast as they could to the statue and began the steep climb. Even though we had been prepared we still seemed to queue for a long time. But it was definitely worth it – even if my sister and I had all of a minute to look out of the crown.
So many stairs but worth it but I did this before 9/11 and I thought they closed this. Im guessing they opened it up again.
