A very pricey elevator ride for the thrill, IMO. I’ve been up several times, mostly ushering around folk from out of town who expressed a desire to see the top. Scared the dickens out of my poor mom, who has a fear of heights.
If you really, really want to go and you’re planning on spending at least $25 per person for lunch, you can show up around noon and get an elevator ride to SkyCity Restaurant for free. It’s a rotating restaurant just below the observation deck, and it gives you a nice view of the whole city as you eat, so that’s pleasant. After your lunch, you can take the elevator or walk up the single flight of stairs to the observation deck, and goof off up there for as long as your poor carcass can stand it.

We could see that our car had been towed by virtue of the fact that it was no longer where we marginally, legally parked it.

My whole family went up and had breakfast in the restaurant a few days before my sister’s wedding. My nephew Luke was 6 and was fascinated with watching everything in the city as we revolved…there was a “map” on the placemats so you could pick everything out. My nephew Sam was 3 and had to emulate (note use of verb, agilesport) everything Luke did, so he also picked things out on the map…it was so cute and one of our family’s fondest memories of that trip!
