How to fly in a hot air baloon

 "Flew with a group just outside Alice Springs, Central Australia to be in the air as the sun rose."
How I did it: Arranged via the hotel concierge to get picked up by the "Outback Adventures" group at about 4:30 am at the hotel. As a part of the group you were asked to help with the setup and breakdown of the hot air balloon before and after the flight. After the breakdown when the flight ended we were driven a short ways to an already-prepared hot breakfast. What a great time! Lessons & tips:

How I did it: On holiday in Turkey, one of the destinations was Goreme, in Capadoccia. Goreme's landscape is stunningly bizarre, with deep gorges and high pinnacles made of a soft stone, in which people years ago dug out their houses. It's a thing of fairytales. And one of the most popular activities is to fly a hot air balloon. Which was on my 43things list, so that was an oppertunity I just couldn't miss out on. Read how I did it…

Ever since I read this book in elementary school (twice) about a man who makes a hot air balloon home, I wanted so much to fly over somewhere amazing in a hot air balloon… but they can be pretty expensive.

My aunt and her husband lives in England. During one of our rare visits to her, they brought us on a hot air baloon. It was in spring and extremely cold for an Asian like me. I had on 5 layers of clothing while others only came in long sleeves.
The view was fabulous. The ride was breathtaking. The landing was superb for me as we hit a tree on the way down. The basket caught a little of the branch and it was the little action for me.
I enjoyed it very much but as I can remember as it happened 14 years ago, Uncle Nick had the total freak on the whole ride. I was lucky to both have received the chance to be on one and being able to thoroughly enjoy it.

It was fabulous. The time in the air was about an hour, but the whole experience was about four hours including setting up and breaking the balloon down again afterwards. The ascent and descent were so gentle you hardly noticed it moving. I can happily recommend this for anyone else who’s interested.
Never even considered the danger

We went on a cold day in Michigan and shot up so high and moved so fast. There is no motor so it is so quiet and you could even have a conversation with someone on the ground. We saw deer running through the woods when they heard us fire it up, and when we landed we were going so fast it was practically a crash landing but we were young and naive and didn’t know it was a scary moment.
