Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I had one of these moments running down a hill for a long time, and I just kept going and I was having the time of my (running) life. Next day I had shinsplints for like a month. 6 years ago

Long run

S and I ran 19.5 miles

At mile 15-ish a big
deer fly was buzzing his
head. He had a cramp and
it was getting hot. I wasn’t
helping because I was feeling
really good.

Damn it,” he barked,
swinging at the pesky fly
and his wedding ring flies
off his finger, bink-bounces
and disappears into the high
grass on the side of the road.

We look at each other.

“Oh, crap!
“Oh, shit!

We start by marking off
ten feet of fence so we don’t over
search. We look in the high grass;
we look in the short stuff by the

We give up, and get ready to finish
the run; sunlight sparkles off white
gold – I’m looking right at it, I’m
afraid to move. I point.

We finish the run in good spirits

I bought a pair
of Brooks Burn 2

They sucked. So, I
decided to do some

They have obnoxious
lateral arch pods, which
in my opinion, make you
pronate if you’re neutral.,

I cut them off.

Shoes work great now!

Training report

0525 I slapped the alarm
off groaning. I fell
asleep at 0200.

Stiff-kneed it over
to my running kit,
put on my Brooks
trainers and staggered
outside into chicken
world. Or bird world;
maybe the same thing,
I guess.

Anyway, birds and chickens
were making a gihugic
amount of noise. I felt
like constructing a feline
tosser: magazine full of
cat ammo, curled up and
pre-pounce ready, sight
the noisiest birds,
depress the trigger…

I’m not an early, early

I meet up with S, with looks
well rested (the bastard) and
we start running. After 10 miles
I feel better. At 13 miles I
feel great. We run 15.5 in
2 hours.

I’m ready for a nap now.

10K run

I stripped out of
my wetsuit just as
running buddy, S
knocked on the door.

“_Feels like a race
transistion!”_ I yelled.
I ran out with wet shorts,
no shirt, a visor and a
bottle of fuel.

We ran easyquick, talking.
I was still pumped from
the swim. I yapped his ear off
about the wonders of salt
water. We run by brother
S’s house, and he comes
running out with Azalea
the Wonder Triathlete Dog.

They run a mile with us.

My island: no volcanoes;
just really fit dogs.

6.4 miles.

biked long,

Actually, I

not the limping,

8 miles @ night
after dinner.

It was nice: stars.
I wore my pee-yellow,
windstopper and a Princeton
Tec headlamp.

Brought a bottle carrier
with HEED electrolyte and
just ran easy.

Slept really well!

Wear as much white
as possible.

The sun reflects off
this high albedo color
and helps keep
you cooler.

Dark colors are bad;
black is the worst.
