I work in tv so this is a funny goal for me to have but I really want to break the habit. There are other ways I can spend my downtime.

How I did it: When I moved I didn't have a TV with me and I've yet to save up the money to buy one. Lacking a TV at home my only options are to watch at work or visit people. The last few shifts I just didn't watch it and I've been living the life of a hermit so there was no visiting. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I found many other fulfilling things to do- hang out with my dog and cats, bike along the lakefront, go running, listen to music, be calm and meditate, read...anything but watch tv. And ya know what? I didn't miss television at all. Thinking about it- there isn't much good on television these days anyways...just a bunch of mindless commercial ridden talking heads or idiotic psuedo-dramas or sitcoms. In fact, I haven't watched TV for s… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I read a book called "4 hour work week" and learned how to take a break from all the media I was consuming. There is so much negativity out there and news is a good way to get all the updates on how bad the World is doing. 1 Week Media DietHere's How to Do It: Do not watch television except for 1 hour of pleasure viewing per evening. No news or non-fiction documentaries, etc. Only 1 hour of fluffy TV allowed. Do not read the newsp… Read how I did it…

But I managed a whole week without so I will use this experience to remind myself to switch the things off more often and concentrate on things that are really important like work, friends and my own personal intellectual development! Good experience! Thank you cable company for your crappy service! ;-)

because the cable is not working since last Wednesday. Now I realise how addicted I actually am to TV when I am at home! The first day I realy felt totally lost and even a little depressed because I had no idea what to do else then TV and/or internet. But I changed my ways: went to the cinema, met with friends, called other friends, read and maybe in the end this will turn out the best thing that could happen at this moment in time because it gave me time and forced me to think! If I am able to really set up my getting things done system this week it will be because I could not hang in front of the TV with my mind switched off!
I generally have the TV on from when I get home from work, until I go to bed, and find that I’m spending too much of my time watching it because it’s on, and it’s stopping me doing things I want to do.
This was actually a bad habit I broke myself of once before. A few months ago I becomes relatively depressed and started up again. Now I get home from work, switch on the tube, ignore my homework and the fact that I need to job then pass out and wake up late for whatever I was supposed to do that day.
This ends now.
But I am watching less then before. So I am actually quite content.
I thought I was doing good. And I’m falling back in to old habits. TV, while it is a source of relaxation, seems to take over my day sometimes. And frankly, it’s annoying. At some point, I would love to spend a week TV free.
Went to Copenhagen for a few days. It was really wonderful. Didn’t watch tv of course. Decided this is the moment I am starting my week. So I’ll try not to watch tv until next thursday!
So… I think today is a nice day to start. I am home alone all evening, but there is absolutely nothing on I would like to watch. So this should be easy. However I feel kind of miserable and even though there is an awful lot that I could do I feel restless and just crave watching tv… not a good thing. I think I’ll try and start doing the dishes and do some laundry, and if then still… I’ll go and rent a DVD next door and watch it, because that’s no tv (I try to convince myself ;))
Although I watch considerably less tv than before, I still watch and have not managed to go a week without. However, it is nice to notice that whenever I just watch tv because I am bored I ask myself if it is really worth it and often decide to turn off the tv (unfortunately, this usually means I turn on the computer…...)
