Today I was looking at bathing suits in the L.L. Bean catalogue. All the women’s bathing suits have tiny logos that show how they correct problem figures: “best at whittling waistline,” “best at minimizing hips and waist”...and even “best at creating curves”! Strangely, the men’s bathing suits have no logos for correcting any kinds of problems. Maybe men all have perfect figures. Would anyone like to join me in writing a note to L.L. Bean suggesting that they change their outlook on women’s bodies? We might have an impact!
Terri Schiavo passed away this morning. If our society had not exerted such terrible pressure on her to be thin, she would not have become bulimic and had her heart stop for a catastrophic number of minutes. Magazines, newspapers, and TV constantly tell us to THINK THIN. Let’s tell them to accept us as we are! And then let’s all go out for ice-cream!
