I’ve discovered that my way to deal with stress is to cry. For the longest time I’ve been trying to just not cry because I was told it doesn’t solve anything, but apparently it does. I cry for about 10 minutes and then I’m all good and ready to try again. The real test for how well I’ve learned to handle stress will come with grad school. If I can get through a full semester without panic attacks/break downs then we’ll be good. :)

I’ve gotten a lot better, but I still let it get to me too often.

I’ve always had a problem with this mostly because I never thought it was a problem…if that makes sense! I let things get too far gone before I ever do anything about it. These past few months are no exception and my body/mind is paying the price for it now. Solution: breathing exercises :)

This is not to say that I still don’t feel annoyed or irritated by things but that I have totally learnt to deal with the kind of stress that used to threaten to be my ruin.

To be more specific.... 3 years ago

Learn to deal with stress without smoking! I quit 2 weeks ago and my adiction is still telling me that I will have less stress if I light up. I can deal with it!

useful tips (meditation based) 3 years ago

Feel the emotion, acknowledge the thought. But always as an observer.

As in

“so, this is what I am feelin about this…”

as opposed to

“i am feeling so … about this”

you own the thoughts and not the other way round

Asking for support or assistance used to be near impossible for me. i felt it made me weak to seek or accept it. As i have matured and gotten over some issues of mine, i have learnt to recognize when i need to reach out and when i can make do on my own steam.

i woke up today imagining a trial of a day to unfold. stressfull more than anything which is where i falter. i am trying to work on this though. Today, I made an executive decision to not remain in that mental space even if it meant dragging myself out. I chose the path of emotional comfort and reached out to get what I needed.

I proved my old self wrong. i made myself stronger by daring to seek some emotional support. And in so doing effectively dealt with what could have been an uber stressfull day.

I read a few words also that really perked me up and i think i can apply it to the whole dealing with stress better

“every sixty
seconds
you spend upset is a minute of happiness
you’ll never get back.”
