Two months ago when I was at my parents’ I saw the little toy ironing board that I played with as a girl tucked away in the attic. I said to my mom, “My niece should have this. A little girl should be playing with this instead of it being archived in the attic.”
We decided that she should not only get this ironing board, but that I should sew a little ironing board cover for it before giving it to her for her third birthday.
I found the perfect fabric for it, I got my trusty Elna sewing machine out and away I went. I used all of the equipment in my sewing kit, including the ripper. Ah, this is why sewing is a challenge, the need for the ripper.
It turned out great! The little niece’s birthday was last weekend and it arrived on her porch a few days before. It’s inspired me to take on a few more projects.

I’m a fashion and clothing student, i have been sewing since the age of 4, the only advice i can give you is to not be scared and just go for it! to be honest if it goes wrong then u can always unpick it!
make easy things first, pillows, purses, then look at your clothes, add bits on take things up and in, or out! then look at the logic of your clothes, then make your own!
good luck

I agreed to hem some pants for a friend at church. Then I had them sitting around here for two weeks before I went in search of the machine! Good thing I didn’t have to dig too far to find it. It was nice to have it out and using it again.
I made a pillow case for my little son(his 5th b-day was Oct 1st) out of sponge bob fabric. He loved it!
My next task is to make TWO cheerleader outfits before Tues. for the twins(7)! This should be pretty easy when I find the fabric! That is another big excursion because the boxes on the shelf downstairs got buried with furniture my hubby moved in front of the shelves. Major undertaking just to get to the fabric. If I had more money, I would just go buy more fabric!
Next year I want to sew a lot more. I’m inspired now because I just started working in the fabric dept at Wal-Mart. Lots of fun stuff to make! And I’ve had a couple customers needing help with their halloween costumes. So, I may have a side job to sew for a lady on Monday too.
It’s gonna be a busy weekend!

I made my bridemaids, grandmothers, mothers, and other helpful people purses before my wedding! They went over really well and the best man even approached me and offered to pay for one for his wife! I won’t let him pay me, but I’ll be making another one for her this week. They were fun!

Used it to whip up a sock monkey for my husband for our second anniversary last Monday. Definitely made the project a lot simpler, though I was hesitant at first, as up until now I’ve always hand-stitched them 100%. Still, makes the arms, legs, and tail a total snap. Now, I’ve got tons of mending and altering to do but I need to get some thread and a pair of pinking shears. Maybe a few extra bobbins. Hmm.

then it broke.
However I had my first class at the college and it was good and made it seem easy.

Hi I signed up for a dressmaking evening class this week. The tutor says if I take the machine in she’ll help me learn to use it.
I also got the machine out and faffed with it a lot.
I can now get the bobbin to wind.
The settings, I now know mostly what they do. I can change zigzag to straight, vary the length of stitch, change the tension:)
Sometimes I can get the bobbin thread to come up.
Sometimes it sews a bit!!!
All this is new- major improvement!:)

I was pretty proud of myself, figuring how to put the bobbin in and bring up the thread…so first I hemmed some pants, then I made throw pillows…fun stuff.
