I am going to use the GTD or whatever it is called method someone suggested. I need to do this in order to be a happier more focused and positive person. :)) I’ll start now.
I’ve felt much better ever since I started using the GTD method a year ago.
1. Get EVERYTHING and put it in an inbox. Everything. In my case, my inbox was about 20 times too small so I had to pile everything on my desk.
2. Write down everything that’s on your mind onto a piece of paper. Keep writing until you can write no more. If anything comes into your head, write it down.
3. Doesn’t that feel better? You aren’t finished yet though..
4. Get a filing cabinet to put all yer paper in. Get a book to write lists of stuff.
5. Get the thing in the top of your inbox (or desk) and either:
5a. The item doesn’t require any action. Put it in your filing cabinet (or where it belongs).
5b. The action required for this item will take less than 2 minutes to complete. JUST DO IT.
5c. The action will take longer than 2 minutes or the item needs more than one action. Spend 2 minutes writing a plan for how to do the action. Plan it right down to single first actions, so later you can pick up the book and start going without thinking.
6. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 5 every now and then.
Note: the ‘official’ GTD (by david allen) organises the action list by context, ie where you are or what you’re doing. I don’t do this because it’s too hard to take the list everywhere I go, and I spend most of my time on my computer anyway.
