It looks like I will start with baby steps. I’m taking a sailing lesson in the little Sunfish style boats this summer.
How to sail a boat
How I did it: I took a course at the local beach park. They had multiple boats and very knowledgable instructors. The weather was good, so it was relatively easy to do, but I still have a lot of vocabulary and concepts to learn. I plan on continuing in the rest of the 4 sailing courses they offer.
Lessons & tips: Make sure you go with an experienced person.

I want to know how to handle a sail boat. It doesn’t have to be a big boat – just enough to learn the basics of handling a tiller and the sails.
I live in South Florida for Pete’s sake… How I’ve managed to live nearly my entire life here and NOT learn how, is beyond me.
Did this on another school camp in year 9. It was aquatics camp on the murray river. I was sailing with another girl Lauren in a cat 420 sailboat a bit like the one in the picture. Anyway a bi gust of wind came along and Lauren pulled the sail tighter instead of letting it loose so it tipped the whole boat. Still awesome fun though we got it back upright got in and sailed off again. Fun.
With the exception of the last few years, I generally havnt gone a month without sailing since I was 10. I dont need to own boats, I just joined the sea scouts!!

I forgot to mention that I plan to live on a boat when I get to grad. school, but probobly not a sailboat, just because I’ll need more room (roommates).
Anyone from SF Bay area?
Anyone with experience with living on a boat?

Anyone want to sail my little 2-person boat with me, or take a trip on the big boat? :) I’m not sure when I’ll go. Probobly on one of the days I’m cleaning Seafair. Check my calendar. I’ll go when someone else wants to go. I can’t get my boat into the water without some help.
My father was a sailor in his youth and there has always been something alluring about the sea and the water. I think I would like to, not only experience the seas in all their moods, but be fluent in the ability to travel across them. Sometimes I wish I had joined the Navy to both travel and be at sea.
