5 years on the Russian River, CA 2 years ago

We bought and restored a 1870 Victorian on the Russian River – 3 years of remodelling (with guests in the house) and two years of just running the place. If you have less than 9 rooms (or a very fat bank acct), be prepared to do many, many things yourself. Learn cooking, plumbing, electrical, accounting and carpentry skills. Things will break, etc. at night, on weekends, when you are full and you will not be able to get help/justify the cost in a rush situation.
That being said – it was a joy to meet people from all over the world. The only reason that we got out was because we were having a baby and there was no way to run a 4 room inn AND raise a baby.

    Run a B&B 3 years ago

There’s just something about this that would really appeal to me – so long as I was financially sound and my life did not depend on it!

I think meeting new people, and making them welcome to your area, and helping them have a great time would be lovely.
