Rewrite the vacation reservation system in Rails

The goal for this first release is to provide maximum value for my current clients while maintaining simplicity. This necessitates focus on their most common activity and on the most desired missing functionality.

Thus is born… FastQuote

• Rapid online calculation of price for a vacation package
• Email notification – send this quote to the customer and internal email addresses

• Upload/Update of golf courses, accommodations,etc. and the related weights
• Security – user login and tracking of sent quotes
• possible – blog related to quote to capture internal details related to the call/interaction

I have three existing customers using a custom vacation reservation system focused on building golf vaction packages. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing, but the system provided enough value that it is still in use today, 7 years after release (Ha! ;-) ).

My goals are to learn Rails, improve my Ruby skills (and possibly land a Rails job in Ohio) while providing my current clients with a much need upgrade relative to web based business. The old system doesn’t support the most ubiquitous communication method email nor is it well designed either in UI or backend architecture.
